State Required Qualifications

In Ohio, to work in a child care facility you must:
1 - Be 18 or older;
2 - Have a High School Diploma or GED;
3 - Be fingerprinted and pass a BCII and FBI criminal background check.
4 - Have a current medical statement (provided) that states you are
a - Physically fit employment in a facility caring for children;
b - Free of communicable tuberculosis (TB);
c - Immunized against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR);
d - Immunized against tetanus and diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap).

Continuing Education

Within the first year you will be required to complete courses in:
1 - CPR for Adults, Children and Infants,
2 - First Aid,
3 - Communicable Disease Management, and
4 - Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention.
5 - In addition to the first year classes, during your second and third year you will also take another 30 hours (15 each) of classes with the topics of child development

Center Required Qualifications

1 - Good attendance is mandatory and poor attendance is serious grounds for termination. If you are a of person who occasionally calls in sick because you just do not feel like working that day, please do not apply for this job.

2 - You have to be physically fit enough to lift children, stoop, crawl, and to get up and down from the floor several times thought the day.

3 - You must have a good disposition, and a genuine care for children.
"I love babies" is not enough. We all love babies, but not everyone can do this job. It takes a special energy and a special heart.

4 - You need the ability to manage a room full of little ones.
You need to be creative and keep them involved with physical activities, educational projects, and encourage social harmony.

5 - Your job is the care and nurturing of children, not to be texting on your cell, or worrying about what a teacher from another classroom is doing. This has been a problem in the past, and will not be tolerated.

6 - Most importantly, you are a role model. Remember that your behavior, language and appearance will set an example for little ones.
